The Pittsburgh Port
Authority’s overhead maintenance vehicle (OMV) is a
self-powered diesel vehicle used for various maintenance
and repair tasks on the authority’s light-rail system.
Due to modernization of Pittsburgh’s track system, the
vehicle could no longer be operated from strictly one
end, and therefore the vehicle then required a
rear-facing cab.
RailPlan designed, manufactured, and
oversaw the installation of a self contained operator’s
cab for the rear of the vehicle. The assembly consists
of an FRP modular cab, tubular steel safety cage frame,
and all of the necessary controls to drive/operate the
vehicle. The cab assembly was designed to be mounted to
the vehicle with minimal modifications to the vehicle’s
frame.
